I have found it useful in other applications (such as Notepad++) to be able to view a single document - especially a long one - in multiple tabs, in order to see one portion of the document while working on a different, but related, portion of the text...or to be able to grab a portion of text from one place and paste it in a second area of the full text.
Even better if there's a way to view both tabs side-by-side...and also helpful to have zoom control over each tab, so they aren't required to be viewed at the same magnification.
Is this possible?
(if not, definitely a feature request)
View Single Doc within Multiple Tabs?
Re: View Single Doc within Multiple Tabs?
I just open two iterations of TextMaker and size each window to half the screen. That makes it very convenient for moving back and forth. Typically, I have a manuscript open in one window and the outline open in a second window.

Re: View Single Doc within Multiple Tabs?
Thank you Woody44. I tried what you suggested, and it's certainly workable - if I have two different files.
So I've made a copy and have the original in one iteration of TM, and the copy in the second iteration of TM.
I do wish, though, this could be done with a single file in 2, or even 3, panes...and within a single iteration of TM.
But short of that ideal, your idea works well, and I appreciate you sharing it with me.

Re: View Single Doc within Multiple Tabs?
I thought it could be done with one file. The second iteration loads as a read-only copy. I just tried that, and it refused to load the second iteration of the file. Interesting.
SoftMaker - please consider adding this functionality to a future update.

Re: View Single Doc within Multiple Tabs?
The problem with tabs is that tabs overlay one another. I know a lot of people LOVE tabs, but I have never found any use for them in production work. I find that it's much more productive to have two windows (meaning two iterations of whatever program I'm using) open side-by-side.CelloGuy wrote: Wed Feb 04, 2026 3:57 pm Thank you Woody44. I know in both Word and in TextMaker if I try to open a document on a network that someone else is working on, I get a message alerting me that the file in in use and asking if I wish to open a read-only copy. I never realized that this doesn't work for a second iteration of the file that **I** am working on.
It should.
