Text animation "appear" - revisited

Some time ago (in a BETA thread) a question was raised regarding the default text "appear" animation: "letter by letter". I fully agree with that poster that this default feels very weird. "Appear" should by default mean "appear immediately", not some niche use slow animation. Any progress/comment regarding this issue? (Perhaps there is a setting somewhere to change this default that I have missed?)
