French spelling problem

Post by PhP7_Fr »

Hello,
In French, the "oe" combination is written using the "œ" character. The spell checker detects this but fails to suggest the correct spelling (for example, it flags "soeur" as incorrect but does not suggest "sœur"). You have to use the "Review" and "AutoCorrect" features to enter *all* words containing "oe".
Should a specific dictionary be used? Does Hunspell not recognize this particularity?

Thanks !! :D

Thank you for posting your problem. I can reproduce this: with the French dictionary active, TextMaker correctly marks "soeur" as wrong but doesn't offer "sœur" in the suggestion list, so there's no one-click fix. I've logged it for the team to look into.

In the meantime, the quickest way to avoid retyping is to set up AutoCorrect entries (Review > Auto Correction) for the common cases — soeur → sœur, coeur → cœur, oeuvre → œuvre, and so on — so the ligature is inserted automatically as you type.
