No. 10 envelope

Post by fuddy »

Is there an option for this? If there is, I'm not seeing it... it's one of the primary reasons I downloaded this tool -

I use the classic menu. The first line of my response is how to access the #10 envelope size through the classioc menus.

The second line is how to access it using the ribbon menu.

  • Page Setup panel
  • Page size menu

It would be nice if the list of paper sizes said "No 10" in addition to "Standard" for the No. 10 Envelope. There are No.9, No. 11, No. 12, No. 14 listed, but not a "No.10."

I look for "No. 10" because, in addition to this Standard Business Size Envelope there is a Standard Letter Size Envelope, often just call "Envelope" that measures 6.5" x 3.625" This is listed as Personal Envelope in TextMaker, which is fine. It is also known as a No. 6-3/4, #6-3/4, Remittance, or Return envelope.
__________

I apologize because I was looking at the options in the Linux version of TextMaker (I did not create any custom sizes), but, I think my suggestion is still valid and it would be great if the options in the Windows version were similar to the options in the Linux version with the above suggestion implemented.

Attached are images of the list of Page Sizes available in the Linux version that should be in the Windows version. The black interface is TextMaker NX/2026 Beta for Linux, the white and red interface is TextMaker 2024 that has nice bolding for each option, which makes the list more readable.

But "Envelope No. 10" IS listed. And I do not see No.9, No. 11, No. 12, or No.14. Where are you seeing those sizes as options? Have you previously set them up as custom sizes?

This discussion suggests another request for a feature improvement. The page setup options allow users to set dimensions and margins for a custom paper size ... for one-time use. It is not possible (that I can find) to create a custom paper size for (as an example) a No. 9 envelope and to save it in the paper sizes for future use. Being able to save custom paper sizes by name would be very useful.

As another example, the standard paper sizes (for the U.S.) include "Letter" as 8-1/2" x 11". However, the Department of Defense (and, probably, other government agencies) use 8" x 10" as their standard paper size. There is no way to add that to the list of paper sizes.

For this purpose, document templates exist. You define the paper size, save as TextMaker template (*.tmvx) or Word template (*.dotx), name it accordingly (e.g. "No. 10 envelope" or "8 x 10"), and you can easily select the paper size via the "File > New..." command or the "Create a new document" icon in the icon bar.

Understood, and I do that. I think of it as an inconvenient work-around for something like a VERY standard paper size (such as a No. 9 business return envelope). I have a box of No. 9 envelopes in my home office.

The page sizes (including envelopes) come straight from the printer driver, not from inside SoftMaker Office.

Thank you for that. So the answer is to make standard templates, as suggested by Jossi.

Martin, I just opened the driver properties for my default printer, a Canon MF-230. In the list of paper sizes there are a LOT of sizes (including a No. 9 envelope and several other envelope sizes) that do not appear in the paper size menu in TextMaker. What do you mean when you say "The page sizes (including envelopes) come straight from the printer driver, not from inside SoftMaker Office"? TextMaker obviously isn;'t showing us the complete list, so is TextMaker (or SoftMaker Office in general) somehow coded to display only a subset of the paper sizes available in the driver?

That's not helpful. What good is having a bunch of paper sizes pre-defined for the printer if the application doesn't show them to us?

To do that, first set your Canon MF-230 as the default printer in TextMaker as well.

Go to File | Print, select "Canon MF-230" from the printer list, then click Close.

Then check the page size list under Layout again — you should see the updated list.

My TextMaker is already set to use the MF-230 as the default, and I do NOT see in the paper sizes in TextMaker anywhere near the number of paper sizes I see when I go into Windows Devices and Printers and click on Properties for the MF-230.
