Supported cloud services

Post by Woody44 »

Poking around in the settings for Textmaker on my Samsung tablet, it tells me that I can set up TextMaker to work with Box, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, NextCloud, and Yandex as cloud services. My problem is that I don't use those cloud services. I use pCloud, IceDrive, and Proton Drive.

Can you expand the list of supported cloud services to include pCloud, IceDrive, and Proton Drive?

Thank you.

Our apps use the Android system file dialogs (Storage Access Framework). Any cloud service that supports opening and saving files through these system dialogs should appear automatically in our apps when you use "File > Open" or "File > Save."

Simply install the cloud app, sign in to your account, and it should become available. If you don’t see it right away, restarting the app or your device may help. For example, Proton Drive appears correctly when I open or save files in TextMaker.

Note: Also please ensure that "Tools > Options > Appearance > Use system file dialogs is enabled" otherwise you will be getting our own file dialogs that do not support cloud apps.

Lastly - some cloud services do not integrate with Android’s system file dialogs and therefore will not appear.

__________

I use PCloud and SoftMaker Office on my Android phones and tablet.
I did not perform any special setup and am able to use three methods to open files stored on Pcloud in SMOffice.

1. From within the SMOffice app, Use "File > Open" where I see PCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and local locations. I choose a cloud and navigate to the file of interest (if you have many clouds connected, you may have to scroll to see all of them).

2. From within the PCloud app, I navigate to the file of interest, click on the 3 dots to the right of the file, then choose Edit, then select the app I want to use for editing. Once the file is edited in Textmaker or Planmaker, saving the file saves it directly to PCloud, overwriting the original (as intended).

3. I use the third party file manager app "X-Plore." Within X-Plore, I connect to PCloud with my login credentials one time and PCloud folders remain available in X-Plore without having to manually reconnect (this works with Google Drive, OneDrive, and others). I long-press the name of the file I want to open, then choose "Open with," then select the editor app I wish to use (e.g. TextMaker). When using this method, TextMaker seems to create a backup file (.bak) for the file your are editing. This file remains in my phone's Download folder even after I've saved my edits and closed all my apps. While this .bak takes up extra space, it allows TextMaker to use its backup methods - this could be handy if your battery dies or if you need to return to a previous version of the file on your local device (I usually just delete the .bak file).

I usually use the 2nd method. An added bonus for me when using the PCloud app is that I can preview a file by clicking on it to decide if this is really the file I want to edit. After previewing the file, I return to the list of files in PCloud, then click on the 3 dots, then choose Edit...).
__________

"[conflicted]" File Name When Using Mulitple Editors on the Same File
One caveat I discovered while testing various editors (Softmaker Office, MS Word, MobiOffice) with PCloud on Android is that if I edit a PCloud file in one editor, save the file, then close the app, the file seemed to remain open: while I can edit the file in another editor and save it to PCloud, I notice that an additional file is created on PCloud with "[conflicted]" appended to the file name (this is the newer file). This is not tied to a particular editor, but to the way Android behaves. If I wait a while before editing the same file with another editor, the problem does not occur (I supposed I could reboot my phone too). If I stay with just one editor the problem does not occur. Just thought I'd mention this in case other folks are test mulitple editors too. In the past I tried the tests on OneDrive and believe I ran into the same (Android) issue.
