To paste text only you should use ribbon Home command Paste>Paste unformatted text. Another option is to use shortcut key Alt+Ctrl+V for paste special dialogue where you can select to paste unformatted text.

The Alt key on the Mac is also called Option and you can find it next to the Command key.

On Mac, I use the Command+Shift+V shortcut to paste without formatting. Maybe it's worth adding this to the instructions?
