inserting dummy text using =lorem() or =rand()

If I lay out several small text frames and then insert text into the any of the frames using = lorem() or =rand() then the text frame expands lengthways down the page until the full text is accommodated and I don't seem to be able to resize the frame or link it to other frames. This totally disrupts my layout.
However if I link the frames first and then insert =lorem() into the first frame , the text flows through the frames without resizing them, thus preserving my layout.

Your textboxes are probably set with a growing height.
Please right-click them before inserting the lorem and then go to Properties > Format > height: Fixed
