Thank you and sorry for the late reply. Starting Textmaker as administrator allowed me to permanently change the setting.

Thanks for the suggestion. What I've discovered in the meantime is that changing the default font works as an administrator, but not for other windows users without administrator privileges. I usually work as a non-admin because I consider that somewhat safer. Is there a way to change the ...

Thank you so much.
Yes, I follow those steps exactly. In particular, I select "Set as default" and "Change for all documents..." My preferred font is "Tahoma". Then I save the document and open a completely new one, and again "Times New Roman" is the selected font.
