Footnotes insert blank lines
I frequently use footnotes displayed at the bottom of the page. Often a footnote will insert blank, uneditable lines on the bottom of the following page. This makes a mess of the formatting I've been doing on my book. What is happening and how do I fix it?

Is it possible to center text on a page vertically?
Is it possible to center text on a page vertically? It would be handy if that feature is available.

Re: Need help solving a mystery break in the text.
Well, I just inadvertently discovered a partial answer. There is a footnote on the page that precedes the problem location. That footnote had a line return inserted after the text. I deleted that line and suddenly the screwed up page with the blank area corrected itself. Mostly. It still is somewhat...

Re: Need help solving a mystery break in the text.
Thanks, Jossi. And....there isn't anything there. Shucks. I thought if something showed up when I showed hidden, then I could have just deleted it. No such luck.
Any other ideas?

Need help solving a mystery break in the text.
I have been busily typesetting my book and have run into a mystery that so far has defeated me. I have a paragraph that breaks about 5/8 of the way down the page, in the middle of a sentence, with the rest of the paragraph moving to the following page. I thought there probably was an aberrant page b...

Re: Headers, footers and page numbers -- how to use them?
Thank you, @Jossi. I'm just getting started this morning (west coast USA), so will apply your suggestions in a few minutes and see how it works. The use of chapter breaks is something that seems to be unique to TextMaker. At least I was unaware of it when I used Word. When I finish this project and ...

Re: Headers, footers and page numbers -- how to use them?
Ok, found them. I'm kind of blind, sometimes. For someone else with the same question, use the Insert ribbon menu. The Header-Footer-Page Number section is second from the right. My next question is how to get them to work right. Here's my list of issues: The page number 1 needs to start on the firs...

Headers, footers and page numbers -- how to use them?
I'm setting up a template to use for formatting my latest book. I need to put a header on each page and page number in the footer. I can't seem to find headers, footers or page numbers in the ribbon menus. Where are they and how do I set them up?

Setting spaces following a period.
Call me old-fashioned, but I was taught that a period at the end of a sentence should always be followed by two spaces. Yes, that was in high school when I was learning to use a typewriter (manual typewriter, of course), but even in this age of proportional fonts, I find text written with the 2-spac...

Re: View two pages side by side for print book setup
That worked! Thanks, everyone! I'll also follow the advice to insert a blank page in the beginning so I can view facing pages. Good suggestion. @john I'm with you that this problem needs to be fixed, but getting away from MS Word is well worth having to jump over a few bumps in the road. Thanks agai...

View two pages side by side for print book setup
I'm moving over to Linux from Windows and trying out Textwriter as a replacement for MS Word. Looks good so far. My first project is to typeset my latest book. In order to do that properly, I need to see adjoining pages in a side-by-side view. Have tried clicking through all the ribbon menus and so ...
