Copy cells in autofilter not working correctly

When using autofilter on a selection of data, if I copy cell contents and paste it to several rows, I'm expecting to only paste it to rows displayed according to the filters selected.
This isn't happening - all rows in the range are being pasted, not just the filtered rows. - see attached example

In both Excel & Google sheets, the filtered out rows are not pasted.
