Being able to auto-fit is a good idea. Even if you don't want to keep the layout, it's much easier to manipulate the text when you can see it all...

Thank you for your post. However, this feature has already been implemented in the latest Beta.

To use it, go to Object properties > Inner text tab > under the Autofit options heading, check the option "Shrink text to fit frame".
