How can I enter a formula using sumif that uses a second workbook? Example:
=SUMIF([workbook2]'Checking transactions2506'!E1:E110,B5,'[workbook2]Checking transactions2506'!C1:C110)
What is the proper syntax for referencing the second open workbook2?
Sumif with multi workbooks
Re: Sumif with multi workbooks
Thank you for the post. Currently it is not possible to use a range from external workbook in function but I have forwarded this as an improvement suggestion.

Re: Sumif with multi workbooks
A correction to the earlier answer: ranges from another workbook can be used in SUMIF. Your formula only needs two changes:
1. The quotation mark goes before the bracket: '[workbook2]Checking transactions2506'!E1:E110
2. The file name in brackets needs the extension, e.g. [workbook2.xlsx]
So the formula is:
=SUMIF('[workbook2.xlsx]Checking transactions2506'!E1:E110,B5,'[workbook2.xlsx]Checking transactions2506'!C1:C110)
1. The quotation mark goes before the bracket: '[workbook2]Checking transactions2506'!E1:E110
2. The file name in brackets needs the extension, e.g. [workbook2.xlsx]
So the formula is:
=SUMIF('[workbook2.xlsx]Checking transactions2506'!E1:E110,B5,'[workbook2.xlsx]Checking transactions2506'!C1:C110)
