Input validation - can't use named ranges

Post by sebatbg »

Hi there,

I can't use named ranges with input validation -> list
Here's the example file. PlanMaker says that something is missing. It works in OnlyOffice
Or maybe I'm wrong somewhere.
And I can't change name from Table1 to other. The Rename option in Edit Names is grey out.

Also I can't currently send you example file but when I'm having a long list in input validation and click on some entry, Plan Maker quite often selects different one.

Could you please check it?
Thank you

Thank you for sharing the sample file example1—pmdx, along with your detailed report.

Issue 1 – Named ranges in input validation

You can define a name range for input validation by following these steps:
1. Select the range from table (D2:D6).
2. Click ribbon command Formula > group "Named ares" > Create names > Define a name as desired.
3. Click on cell F3 > Input validation > select "List entries" > in source type the name defined like "=Name" > press OK.

Issue 2 – Cannot rename Table1 via Edit Names

This behaviour is by design. When you create a table using Insert > Table, PlanMaker automatically assigns a name (e.g. "Table1") to it and it appears in the Edit Names dialog. However, table names cannot be renamed through the Edit Names dialog — the Rename button is intentionally greyed out for table entries.

To rename a table, please do the following:

1. Click any cell inside the table
2. Switch to the contextual ribbon tab Table that appears at the top
3. Click Properties
4. On the Properties tab, change the name in the Name field

I have updated your example file.
