That's because you only get a small percentage of the grammar checking rules when we self-host. All the rules goodness is only in the version hosted by them. LibreOffice has the open-source version which has even fewer grammar rules.

What I meant was that LibreOffice allows you to pick what you want: self-hosted, free version of LanguageTool or pro version. I completely understand if you decide that the pro version is for the subscription model, it is fine by me. What I request, and have been from day one, is the ability for me, as a user, to choose what model I want: Self-hosted, the Free LangaugeTool version, or the Pro/NX subscription model.

I never mentioned FreeOffice. Let's not confuse the concepts. LanguageTool can be used in three different ways:

1. Self-host. As Martin mentioned the drawback is the grammar filters/rules is reduced, but you can, if you wish, week everything local.
2. Use LanguageTool's free implementation: LanguageTool host it. Can be used free of charge, has reduced grammar filter/rules too.
3. LanguageTool's Pro (Suscription): Pay a fee and get the whole package. Hosted by LanguageTool.

What I am proposing is the ability to choose from: Self-Host and whatever SoftMaker 2026/NX will use (Free or Pro versions of LanguageTool's).

Yes, you could argue that adding the Self-host option would be a waste since what you already have does a "better" job because it includes more rules than what you get when you self-host, but, at least when it comes to Spanish, you get lots of false positives and, in the end, need to have a good knowledge of grammar, anyway. Luckily, Spanish grammar is quite consistent so one can always tell when LanguageTool is wrong. The point of the self-hosted version is so my files does not pass by SM or 3rd parties, if that's my choice, and still retain some grammar checking abilities for non-German languages.

Given this (See screenshot), and what is said there, I think is a *VERY* good idea to addthe option in TM to be able to configure Grammar Checking to work with custom LanguageTool's instances.
