File dialog

Post by petermross »

Softmaker NX Beta (1403), September 24 2025

I am running Arch Linux (Linux 6.16.7-arch1-1) on a Thinkpad with 32Gb,
with a fully-updated installation using KDE and Wayland. Its an
AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 8840HS with Radeon 780M Graphics.
I appreciate that it's not one of the supported Linux variants.

In planmakernx, the File/Save as.. dialogue is problematic, for two
reasons that I have found:

-- first, let's suppose that a spreadsheet my-data.xlsx is open. If I
want to save in CSV format, the file dialogue shows initially that
the saved file will be named just my-data, no extension. I edit this
so that it is called my-data.csv and try to save. But planmakernx
pops up an error message to say that the selected save file type
does not match the extension of the file name -- because the
file name has been rewritten to remove the '.csv' that I added.
This behaviour was repeatable.

-- if try to save in CSV format with additional options, then it
does not remove the '.csv' that I added, and does save -- but
I never get asked about those additional options, so I cannot
(for example) select a different delimiter such as '#' instead
of the default comma. This behaviour was repeatable.

For my work purposes that involve large spreadsheets with many
thousands of rows, I have had to revert to using version 1228,
which works correctly for my purposes.

Thank you for your post. Regarding file saving, there is no functional difference between the stable version (S1228) and the Beta.

However, we recommend updating to the latest Beta 2 for the best experience. Once updated, please follow these steps to save your file as a CSV:

1. Open your XLSX file in PlanMaker.

2. Click File > Save As.

3. In the bottom-right corner of the dialog box, use the dropdown menu to select the file format.

4. Choose CSV (Comma Separated Values) as your desired format.

5. Click OK (in the top-right corner) to proceed.

6. If PlanMaker displays a warning about potential feature loss (common when saving to CSV), please review and confirm to continue.

7. Your file will then be successfully saved in CSV format.

Thanks for the reply. There does seem to be a functional difference between 1228 and 1403/1404. Using 1404, the Save As.. dialog box looks like this:
File-dialog-csv.png
where I have typed in the file name kkk.csv. When I press OK I get this:
File-type-and-extension-do-not-match.png
and if I press Yes to return to the file dialog, the file name has been changed to kkk witrh no .csv extension and the file has not been saved.
If I press OK without adding the .csv extension, I get the same complaint that file type and extension do not match.
If, instead, I opt to save as CSV file with additional options, it does save as kkk.csv (whether I specify the file name as kkk or as kkk.csv) but I am never asked about the additional options.

In this case I am using Arch Linux, fully updated, on an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X with 16Gb of memory, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card.

Thanks, confirmed fixed in 1406!

Just for interest, I tried opening a BIG spreadsheet on my laptop that has 32Gb of memory. The spreadhseet had:
worksheet 1: (rows,cols) = (40,16384)
worksheet 2: (rows,cols) = (20,24)
worksheet 3: (rows,cols) = (8000,16)
worksheet 4: (rows,cols) = (17000,17)
worksheet 5: (rows,cols) = (25,17)
worksheet 6: (rows,cols) = (23,8)
worksheet 7: (rows,cols) = (51000,24)
worksheet 8: (rows,cols) = (8300,16)
worksheet 9: (rows,cols) = (39000,50)
worksheet 10: (rows,cols) = (19000,120)
worksheet 11: (rows,cols) = (17000,6)
worksheet 12: (rows,cols) = (550,13)
worksheet 13: (rows,cols) = (17000,9)
worksheet 14: (rows,cols) = (17000,7)
worksheet 15: (rows,cols) = (8000,12)
worksheet 16: (rows,cols) = (250,10)
that's 7139899 cells, with a lot of VLOOKUPs involved. It took a while but it did load, and was sluggish once it loaded, but that's impressive!
