Very strange document

In my entire life I have never owned a printer.

In my opinion a superfluous device.

Hence no printer driver.

I use FreeOffice 2021.

As Office suite applications, including TextMaker formats its page depending on printer driver. Please install any printer, may be a working virtual printer to resolve this problem.

Could it be that starting the Print Spooler service solves the problem?

I was installing the Bullzip Pdf Printer and then a message came that the Print Spooler service had to be enabled. I had indeed switched it off long time ago.

After switching it on, I created two documents as an experiment and then went from Document 2 back to Document 1.

Document 1 appeared to have remained intact.

I then repeated the experiment: again, everything was fine.

Or is this a coincidence?

Of course, that explains it. Office suite applications need access to the printer to be able to format documents. This includes fonts and font spacing because our apps format documents for the printer and not for the screen.

If this is the solution, I have every reason to organise a party.

I will test a few more times first.

Since I got a computer (March 2011) I have been using Office programs and have tried many, but I have never come across this relationship with printing.

Apparently, I am the only one who disabled the Print Spooler service.
