100% CPU Usage

Post by astronos2007 »

Sometimes, in the SoftMaker Office Linux apps, there is an abnormal 100% CPU usage when, apparently, the software does nothing.
Steps to reproduce in TextMaker:
1) Create a new document
2) Go to Paragraph Styles menu
3) Click Organize -> New
4) Give it a name or leave it as is and click OK
In the paragraph settings menu that follows, one core of the CPU is used at 100% for no reason, and my laptop cooler is going crazy.

The same happens when I open Presentations and let it open for a couple of minutes, with nothing going on in it.
System: Debian 9.4 Stretch 64 bit with XFCE Desktop Environment, ASUS ROG GL553VE laptop.

EDIT: I noticed that, leaving the software in that state with the paragraph settings window open and the CPU crazy, if I try to open another document with TextMaker using double click in my file manager (Thunar), TextMaker freezes completely and it is unresponsive untill you kill the process from "htop".

I installed SoftMaker Office 2018 in a Debian 9.4.0 64bit but there is no 100% cpu usage while working with TextMaker or Presentations the way you described it.

Could it be a font problem? I have many TTF fonts installed. Or maybe a Desktop Environment related issue. I'm using XFCE 4.

You could try to uninstall/remove some of the fonts. Does it help?

Uninstalled all my fonts, rebuilt the font cache, same behaviour. Installed them again, rebuilt the font cache again, the same behaviour. So the issue is not because of the fonts.

Does it help to deactivate openGL in the Settings?

Please run TextMaker with the -debug parameter (Start the terminal and enter ‘textmaker18 -debug’ without the ‘). This will log the launch of the software in the file tmlog.txt. Using this log file we can find out what happened.

Please send us that file to forum(at)softmaker.com referring to that thread.

Bump: same behavior on a freshly installed machine with Debian 9.5 Stretch 64 bit, with XFCE 4 Desktop Environment. Also, same issue with the Free version of Softmaker Office 2018.

Bump.

Same issue with SoftMaker Office 18 on Dell latitude E6520 in both Ubuntu MATE 18.04 and Kubuntu 18.04. Not sure what is triggering it. Will cause Text Maker and Presentations to freeze the system for a few moments.
