Softmaker 2016 tgz install on Mandriva 2010.2

Post by JohnI » Thu Nov 24, 2016 5:02 pm

I bought the new Softmaker Office for Linux and installed it on my Mandriva 2010.2 workstation. Softmaker Office 2010 is already installed here and is crucial for riunning my business so it can't be dumped until the new version is working.

The RPM based download failed so I used the .tgz file. It runs to completion and says installed successfully but when I try to start any one of the components it fails. Here are the error messages:

-------------------------------
[john@wkstn01 ~]$ textmaker16
/usr/softmaker-2016/textmaker: error while loading shared libraries:
libidn.so.11: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[john@wkstn01 ~]$ presentations16

== 0x0' failed.
/usr/bin/presentations16: line 5: 24211 Aborted
/usr/softmaker-2016/presentations "$@"
[john@wkstn01 ~]$ planmaker16
planmaker: tnl/t_draw.c:406: _tnl_draw_prims: Assertion `ctx->NewState ==
0x0' failed.
/usr/bin/planmaker16: line 3: 24312 Aborted
/usr/softmaker-2016/planmaker "$@"
[john@wkstn01 ~]$
---------------------------------

The installation messages are:

----------------------------------
[john@wkstn01 soft2016]$ su
Password:
[root@wkstn01 soft2016]# ./installsmoffice

This script will install SoftMaker Office 2016.

The missing library shown in the error messages on startupo DOES exist as
/usr/lib64/libidn.so.11 (/usr/lib64/libidn.so.11.6.1)

How do I proceed to resolve this?

John

You need to install the 32-bit version of this library. SoftMaker Office 2016 for Linux (like all before) is a 32-bit application suite.

Which does raise the question of why only 32 bit versions are available when almost all workstations for the last 10 years have been 64 bit!

That said, a search of the Internet does not reveal a 32 bit version of this library for my distro and starting the other components under strace shows MANY missing libraries that do not exist as 64-bit libraries either on my system.

Since I have a real job here and it isn't workstation management, I guess the question is where to write to get a refund? To bad really, I would have liked to have some of the upgrades available.

John

We are working on a 64 bit version but there is no release date yet.
