Different recent file lists for Beta 2024 and 2021

Post by Devonboy78 »

Following some comments by some claiming Beta 2024 NX has hi-jacked file associations and the revelation that if Beta2024 NX has been set as default program so that when you right-click on file and select Open With, Beta 2024 NX will automatically open, but if you then open 2021, then open a file from the ribbon, 2021 notices that the defaults are not compatible then 2021 will [in the background] reset the defaults so that right-click on file and select Open With will open files in 2021. The reverse happens too, so that when you open a file within Beta 2024 that was created in Office 2021, Beta 2024 NX will quietly reset defaults.
I have observed the following points which help me.
1) The icons are different for each program in Office 2021 compared to the same programme in Beta 2024 NX, with the new icons not having a solid rectangle background with a white letter. simply having a coloured rectangle and letter, so it is easy to see which version you are going to open.
2) the drop-down list of recently opened files is different when you open a program in Office 2021 compared to when you open the same program in Beta 2024 NX. Also the icons on the task bar indicating open programs is different
3) It is great to be able to open a file made with Beta 2024 NX in the older Office 2021, but if you want to ensure that you work only on experimental files, whilst testing Beta 2024 NX, keep them in a separate folder. Softmaker's inherent memory of where last saved files are stored will then let you save/open your beta files there while you are using the beta.

Keep testing!

I think your comment #3, is good housekeeping and good practice in any event of beta testing of any app.
All in one place and easy to tidy up any mess.
