By default every 6 columns there is a thicker vertical dividing line. Similar every 53 rows a horizontal dividing line.
How does one get rid of them?

Go to "View" and uncheck "Show page breaks".

Hi! "Show page breaks" is not on the View menu (see attached "View menu.png"). However, "Insert/Page break" menu does have Insert/Delete options, but they do not work as expected... It seems that the default page breaks (vertical and horizontal) cannot be deleted since the options are greyed out.

You must use the "ribbon" interface...

... or Worksheet > Worksheet > Properties >> Page breaks in the classic interface.
