Do we still have to jump through hoops?

Post by toothfairy » Wed May 20, 2020 2:26 am

Every update to the 2021 Beta (both the private and the public versions) has required an uninstall of the previous copy followed by a system restart. Is that still necessary?

During the beta, there are no service packs. So you need to reinstall, but...

1. You can simply run the new setup and it will silently replace the old version.
2. Why should you need to reboot? The setup doesn't ask you to do that.

What has happened in the past (and has happened again this time) is that installation fails with an "access denied" error. Please see the thread "Beta 2 install, key access" in this section on 29 March. When trying to install the new version, the old version gets uninstalled anyway, but the new installation fails and won't work until after a restart.

With each update, I have closed Textmaker, downloaded the new update file and then installed it. No reboot required. I just click on the TM shortcut icon and the program starts right up. I previously added new shortcut icons on the Quick Access Toolbar, and they are still there when the updated version opens. So far, I am very pleased with the 2021 version.
