Export options

Post by Woody44 » Thu Jan 21, 2021 10:32 pm

In responding to the question about exporting to .txt format, I discovered that one of the export options is to EPUB. Since I am currently working on a book that I expect to publish as an e-book, this is of interest to me. What is the difference between EPUB format and EPUB-CSS format?

CSS is used in HTML for applying style (formatting) to the text and elements on a webpage.
EPUB-CSS has such a similar structure.

I thought all .EPUB files were basically html. How is an .EPUB-CSS file different from an .EPUB file, and how would a user (like me -- in other words, a functional idiot) know which format to choose?

In HTML you may have the styling embedded in the code or in a separate CSS file.
For example, in TextMaker 2021, when exporting to EPUB you may provide your own CSS file and quickly get a totally different look on your book.
You can find more documentation on EPUB formats here: https://www.w3.org/AudioVideo/ebook/
