XWin Errors - Startup problem with Mageia 7 Linux 32-bit

Post by HenryBuddy » Tue Jan 14, 2020 8:11 pm

I recently upgraded from Mageia 6 to Mageia 7. FreeOffice worked well for a while on Mageia 7 but, perhaps due to a linux update, now it won't start up properly on Mageia 7 32-bit systems. My Mageia 7 64-bit machine continues to run FreeOffice OK. When it starts up on a 32-bit version of Mageia 7, it displays a blank dialog box, nothing more. This is with a VESA video driver. It terminates OK when you click the X at the upper right of the dialog box. I don't see any relevant messages in the syslog file. All of the FreeOffice applications have the same problem. Does anyone have an idea about this? Thanks.

Additional information:
When running with -debug option, textmaker18free puts out a lot of messages about font analysis, then seems to get in a loop, putting out this message over and over:

[ 9788ms][ 1091ms]: XWin Error Handler: 8 (BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)): request 130.3
[ 9880ms][ 92ms]: XWin Error Handler: 8 (BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)): request 130.3

[ 11045ms][ 509ms]: XWin Error Handler: 8 (BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)): request 130.3

Here is the end of the log file when I shut it down:

I hope this information is useful.

Could you please go to "?" | About | Write system information and send us the sminfo.txt file it generates?

I was able to run successfully (at 1st attempt) FreeOffice on a Mageia 7.1 32bit on a VMware machine.

Could you try to start TextMaker with the parameter "-disableopengl"? This will temporarily disable openGL.

Also, "-disableopengl -setdisable" will make opengl disabled permanently (even when started without the parameter like from the desktop for example).

If it doesn't work, we won't be able to help you much more, because we don't support Mageia officially.
These are the Linux distributions we officially support: https://www.softmaker.com/en/tips-linux

textmaker18free won't complete its startup process, so I can't go to the "About" tab that you mentioned to create the sminfo.txt file.

New information:

Running with the parameter "-disableopengl" fixes the startup problem. The graphic dialogs open normally and then I see a message saying that it will use XRender instead of OpenGL. So it appears that this is a problem with the use of OpenGL.

This problem does not happen on my 64-bit machine. It only happens on my 32-bit machines.

OpenGL is not well managed on some 32-bit Linux distributions. It seems nobody likes to do maintenance on 32-bit distributions anymore.

That's why FreeOffice can fall back to XRender.

SOLVED. Problem went away on February 10, 2020 with a Mageia update to libqt5opengl5.
