pasting hyperlinks (or other formatting)

Post by Norstaera » Sat Aug 17, 2019 1:41 pm

One of the spreadsheets I lost when my computer crashed and burned had many, many links to websites, posts, etc. I know how to create a single hyperlink at a time - what I want to do is paste information into several cells and maintain the links.

Example: There are several topics in this help forum I want to enter into a spreadsheet. I don't just want the links, but I want to be able to sort the data. In Excel I could paste the information, several cells would be filled w/ data, and I could reorganize and manipulate it. I could maintain the formatting, including any hyperlinks.

I can't do the same in PlanMaker (or I haven't figured out how - I hope it's just me being obtuse). When I paste into PlanMaker I just get the text. No special formatting, no links. No paste special options other than 'unformatted text'. If I paste the same info into TextMaker, formatting and links are also pasted. I tried pasting into TextMaker and then copying from TextMaker and pasting into PlanMaker, but that was no better than pasting directly from the website.

Is there a better option than pasting the information and then tediously going from cell to cell to recreate the links?

From the manual, section "Working with links":

Hint: In hyperlinks, you can use an asterisk (*) as a placeholder for the cell content.

For example: In an empty cell, choose Format > Link and enter http://* in the URL or file name box. After that, if you enter, say, www.softmaker.com in that cell, the link will point to the internet address http://www.softmaker.com.

I'm going to suggest implementing the pasting of links to the product manager.

I appreciate your passing this on as a feature.

While I think the placeholder link could be useful in many circumstances, it wouldn't work in this case. The text is what I need to see, such as "Hello, Dolly". The actual url might be https://drgf/2lkj/fi.com - which wouldn't be very descriptive.

Thanks again for the quick reply.

I'll inform you here when/if we implement it.
