Help User manual not found

Post by JohnWasilewski »

With Linux Zorin 15 running TMPro2018 S976.0313 (64-bit),

I am receiving this error message when I pull down [Help] and select [User Manual]:

Code: Select all

Document Viewer
---------------
Unable to open document “file:///usr/share/office2018/tm2018_en.pdf”.
Error opening file /usr/share/office2018/tm2018_en.pdf: No such file or directory.
I have checked /usr/share/office2018/ and file tm2018_en.pdf IS there, and is readable.

Solved very quickly.
I have changed the default viewer.
Now it works.

I don't know why 'Document Viewer' was unable to open the Help file because it can open all other .PDFs on my laptop.
It's a pity because that's my favourite PDF viewer.

Oh well.

Please try to open this help files in your default PDF viewer i.e. 'Document Viewer' and if you get any error please share the screenshot of the error.
Please also check again if you are able to open other PDF files in 'Document Viewer' properly.

Thanks

Thank you for looking at this.

I have done a test: I tried to open tm2018_en.pdf by invoking the 'Document Viewer' application, not from within TextMaker but from a Linux file manager. As you see, it failed:
Opening tm2018_en.pdf with 'Document Viewer. app.jpg
Failure to openi tm2018_en.pdf with 'Document Viewer' app.jpg
All other document reader applications are able to open tm2018_en.pdf.
Document Viewer is able to open all other PDF files.

There is evidently something in the 'Document Viewer' application that doesn't like something in the tm2018_en.pdf file.
It would be really helpful if you could find and fix whatever it is in tm2018_en.pdf that is causing this error, because the Document Viewer display is very compact and neat, so it is really good for use as a small overlay window for displaying the Help file. But if other things are more pressing, this could wait.

I wasn't able to reproduce the issue on Ubuntu 18.04 using Document Viewer 3.28.4.
What version of Document Viewer are you using?

I tried on Document viewer 3.30.2 on Debian 10.3 and it works fine.
I also tried 3.34 on Ubuntu 19.2 and it also works fine.
Maybe there's some bug on your version in Zorin OS.

Thank you for making those checks and I’m sorry if I’ve caused you unnecessary work.
