It is now possible to directly edit files stored in Google Drive (e.g. in https://drive.google.com/drive/my-drive) using a program stored on your computer. It is only necessary to right-click on the file and select "Open with...". This approach works fine when I select the Word 2007 program that I have installed on my system. However, when I try to open with TextMaker 2018 I get a "file not found" error message as shown in the attached screen capture.
This isn't a "big deal", but I wonder why Word 2007 allows me to edit this way, while TextMaker 2018 does not? (As a "workaround" I can just use TextMaker 2018 to edit the local copy of the file which is then 'synced' with the version stored online in Google Drive.)

I will test it here and refer your suggestion to the product management.
