Suggestion: Run-in heading paragraph style

Post by VLMin »

Run-in headings are widely used, whether in government and corporate report writing or in other well-structured, detail-oriented documents. Basically, a run-in heading looks like this:

Run-in Heading: Next paragraph begins on the same line, formatted as a standard body text paragraph (or with whatever format is desired).

Now, I am aware that this visual effect can be created using character formatting. But this does not capture the heading-related functionality of the run-in. In particular, the run-in can appear in a table of contents, and, in my example, the content "Run-in Heading" is distinct from the standardized ending text, ": ". That is, the colon and space character (or whatever is specified for a particular run-in style) are of the style, not of the content. In addition, whenever a run-in heading is used, the program ignores any space-above setting for the body paragraph that follows.

Just an idea.
