Greetings,

----
2018-10-27 -- Corrections

1. The problem I had with TextMaker 2018 when it was new and new'ish is that it would crash immediately or shortly after I opened some TM 2016 generated files. This is somewhat similar to the original poster's problem, but it is definitely not the "same problem" despite what I wrote. I apologize for the error!
(Gosh, this is the second time today I was definitely wrong about something. Perhaps I should create a TM template with an apology included?)

2. I tried using TM 2018, rev. 938.1002, to open one (single) file that had previously vexed TM 2018, and it seemed to open without difficulty. Since TM 2018 was unreliably unreliable, i.e. it would fail inconsistently, this is not proof that TM 2018 now opens all TM 2016 files perfectly, but it is suggestive that it does.
----

I reported this same problem back in April, and I submitted a sample file (via e-mail):
[Ticket#2018041108000997] Some TextMaker 2016 TMD Documents Crash TextMaker 2018, rev. 928.0314
https://forum.softmaker.com/viewtopic.php?f=299&t=17674

I'm rather alarmed to read that the problem might still might be present. I haven't had the need to fiddle with any genuine TM 2016 files recently, and I assumed that one of SM's patches cured the problem.

Did the developers verify that the problem existed and was it ever repaired? Again, I have not noticed any similar problems recently, but I'd hate to be surprised. I sometimes have to compose vitally important (to me, at least) documents under tight deadlines and unpleasant conditions. Perhaps TM 2016's wonderfully tedious reliability spoiled me.

Cordially,
Richard

P.S. Due to TM 2018's (former?) habit of forgetting to save some document attributes in its TMDX files, or perhaps failing to restore some document attributes that have been saved in its TMDX files, I've been using TM 2018 with it set to save files in TM 2016 format. I have no recollection of having any problem opening these file with TM 2018, but a confirmation that the problem was found and resolved would be nice.

@RKanarek: We received your rar file containing the samples but it was damaged and could not be opened, so we asked to send the file again. Could you please send the sample file again?

Dear Sven,

I had sent SoftMaker a ZIP file which I thought was a replacement for the RAR file that was poorly received (pun), but, after checking my records, I discovered that the ZIP file regarded a different issue.

Currently I have no complaints regarding TM 2018's ability to open TM 2016 files, so I have nothing to (re)send.

Thanks for having (apparently) fixed the issue, and thanks for the reply.

Cordially,
Richard
