settings on permanent?

Hi folks - I bought basic version of SM 2018 and love it but a few mysteries. I find that I have to keep turning Show Tooltips setting off every time I start the program. Is there no way to make settings stick permanently? Seems like there should be some config file somewhere that saves that sort of thing, like Word does. Thanks in advance.
