Support optional font features

Post by Vladimir » Thu Aug 04, 2016 6:21 pm

MS Office has already got support for optinal font features since 2007, making them available on Font dialog, they can be saved in DOCX, XLSX, PPTX formats. But FreeOffice currently have no way to control them when open and edit files in these formats, and when you edit the texts with font feature settings, the setting would be lost. To get better support for M$ Office 2007-2013 formats, you should also making them available in FreeOffice.

Here is a screenshot taken from M$ Word 2010, at the Font dialog.

Additionaly, the Uniscribe library has different behaviors between different versions of Windows, it may affect some OT features and certain complex scripts. Wikipedia also has an article about this. To get predictable effects, you can try to intergrate HarfBuzz engine.

OpenType feature support (actually using Harfbuzz) is planned for the next major release of SoftMaker Office.
