PM 2016 unable to read .xlsx files

Post by carlm » Tue Aug 28, 2018 4:15 pm

Planmaker 2016 Windows, version 768.1215 (latest)

Attached .zip file contains two .xlsx files generated by https://www.nationalpooling.com/ as well as the corresponding .xls files generated from the attached .xlsx by an online service (I don't remember the name).

PM2016 has no problem with the .xls files but can't read the .xlsx files correctly. Most of the file information (headings, column data) is not displayed.

I submitted a web bug report from my Softmaker account back in 04/2018 but never heard back.

Note: I don't have access to MS Office for testing.

I can confirm this problem also with PlanMaker 2018 and will inform the developers.

The problem has been solved and won't occur anymore with the next service pack (Office 2018).

Will there be a service pack for SoftMaker Office 2016 (what I have)?

There will probably be no more Service Packs for SoftMaker Office 2016. (This is an XLSX file that Excel would never create.)

For the record, I had a chance to test these files on Excel 2010, which WAS able to read them. If Excel can read them then PlanMaker should be able to read them. With all due respect, I do not think the fact that Excel would not create a file like that is a valid excuse for PlanMaker's not being able to read it. I have since encountered a .xls file from my credit card company (which contains personal information that I cannot share) which PlanMaker could not read. I do not think it is appropriate to compel me to purchase an update in order to get the product to perform as it should have.

That's entirely possible. Third-party applications that create XLSX files tend to create files that Excel just barely reads. The developers tweak their export only as much as necessary for Excel not to complain. ;-)

Please do not edit posts after someone has already replied to them. That creates a bit of chaos for anyone trying to follow the discussion.

SoftMaker Office 2016 is discontinued and there will be no more updates for this version. If you want to try the file with a current version, go to www.freeoffice.com which offers the free version of SoftMaker Office called FreeOffice.

I was editing the post at the same time that you were replying and did not see your reply until after I had posted my edit.
