Is it possible to create custom date format?

Post by Levente » Thu Nov 05, 2015 10:21 pm

In Hungary we refer to dates in "YYYY. mm. dd." format, but Planmaker has only "dd. mm. YYYY." style. The closest format is "YYYY-mm-dd" but I'd prefer "YYYY. mm. dd." style date when formatting a cell. Is it possible to add somehow such a custom cell format?

In Format > Cell..., the last category is "Custom". There you can define your own date format, in this case "YYYY.MM.DD".

Yes, I know that but my problem is this: I have a spreadsheet that has cells formatted as "YYYY. mm. dd" date format. If I import this file into PlanMaker date fields are displayed in dd.mm.YYYY style. Not exactly what I wanted.

I tried to reformat date fields as YYYY-mm-dd and then import the spreadsheet into PlanMaker. This time PlanMaker displayed cell correctly in YYYY-mm-dd format.

I'd like to avoid reformatting date fields or incorrect order of date representation that's why I'd need YYYY. mm. dd as a date format not a custom format.

I don't follow You here. Custom format does not differ from built-in-format or do You get any wrong output when using the custom format?

I try to explan it in another way. I've got an existing xls sheet where cells are formatted as date in "YYYY.mm.dd" format. I open the excel sheet using PlanMaker and the same cells are represented as date in "dd.mm.YYYY" format. (Note the order of the day, month, year is reversed!) I feel this is some kind of an incorrect way of using existing excel sheets.

If I want to have the cells displayed in PlanMaker in the correct order, that is as YYYY.mm.dd, I need to reformat the cells as custom type after opening it. I'd like to avoid it.

You're right, Levente. I've added a comment over there on the PlanMaker HD for Android tablets forum.

Thanks for clarifying it. What I suggest is to use a macro script to manage the date issue.

The following script resolve the issue:

Code: Select all

option explicit

dim pm as object
dim wbBook as workbook
dim wsSheet as worksheet
dim rnData as range

set pm = createobject("planmaker.application")

'Make Planmaker available
pm.application.visible = true
pm.application.activate

'Open the workbook
set wbbook = pm.workbooks.open ("c:\Data\DateData.xlsx", False , pmFormatMSXML)

set wssheet = wbbook.sheets("Data")

set rnData = wssheet.range("A1:A2000")

'Format the range with our custom date format
rndata.numberformatting.dateformat = "YYYY.mm.dd"

'Save the changes
wbbook.save

'Cleaning up
set rndata = nothing
set wssheet = nothing
set wbbook = nothing
set pm = nothing
If You put it in production then I would recommend that You also add an error management to the script.

Thanks for the script. I know this date handling issue is not a big deal and could be solved with some workaround, but I thought it wouldn't be a big deal to modify the code of PlanMaker to make the workaround unneccessary.

The script is not an option for my problem.

We share a drive and the excel spreadsheet is and always has been correct. Now, I am using freeoffice and whenever I open this HUGE file with over1500 entries on 52 work sheets, it screws up the entire workbook. We cant be using a script everytime we want to edit it and save it.

Is this going to be fixed?

By the way, I changed the regional settings and PlanMaker STILL DOES IT!

Please provide a sample document that exhibits the observed behavior. I can then push this issue with the developers.

Hello,

I'll piggy-back on this thread, since I have almost the same need.

I'm giving SoftOffice PlanMaker a try, and need to format cells so that dates include the day's name, short or long, eg. "Mon" or "Monday".

The Custom section of the "Cell" dialog doesn't include help so I don't know if SO includes this option.

Thank you.

DDD gives you the short day name, DDDD the long one.

As you have a French e-mail address: With the French user interface, it is JJJ and JJJJ, respectively.
