Creating a letterhead with images in header/footer

Post by Gordhan » Sun Feb 26, 2017 7:19 am

Hallo

My previous post didn't appear so I'm posting again....apologies for any inadvertent double posting. I'm trying to create a letterhead with a logo in the header and another image in the footer, to be saved as a Word letterhead template. Could anyone advice me on how to go about this please?

Thank you!

Create a template:
1. Open TextMaker with a blank, new sheet
2. Invoke Insert=>Header/Footer and write your text into the header and footer
3. Invoke View=>Master Pages
4. Invoke Object=>New Picture Frame and place your logos where ever you want on the sheet
5. Save the template via File=>Save as=>Filetype:"tmv (template)" in the template folder (should be something like "C:\Users\Name\Documents\SoftMaker\Templates 2016" by default but you can change the template folder anytime you like in Tools=>Options=>Files)

Work with the template:
1. Open TextMaker
2. Invoke File=>New and select the template you created in the File=>New dialog
=>A new document appears based on your template with your header, footer and images. If you now create new pages in your document, they will all have the same header, footer and images.

Hope this helps.

Hi, sorry for replying to an older post but I'm having a problem with what Sven described above. I've got a picture frame image moved into the header (just dragged into place above a border), but that image doesn't show in the headers of new pages.

Is there another step for inserting the image into a header? I tried the embed option, but that puts the image inline with some text that I want to be right-justified.

Thanks

Are you sure you positioned the image in Master Pages view? Otherwise it won't work.

Hi Jossi, yes I followed the steps that Sven gave & inserted the image while master pages was active (so it reads 'chapter 1' etc at the page top). Then saved as a template > closed > started a new document based on that template > inserted a page break to make a new page & this happens:
Capture.PNG
no header image in the following pages.

As I can't reproduce this issue, could you please attach a sample document here?

I can see the problem but can't really explain it. However there does seem to be a work around that seems to solve the problem. The difference is changing the frame to an embedded object. Try the attached change and see if it works for you.

I think I see the problem and it's a bit subtle but easily fixed. The object frame is positioned in the header but it is anchored in the text area. You'll see that when you select the object and note the paragraph that has the anchor. The fix is simplicity itself. Simply cut the object frame, make sure that the cursor is positioned in the header and paste it back. Make sure that the anchor is on a paragraph in the header. It should behave properly.

I suspect that this was caused by originally pasting or otherwise creating the object frame in the text area and then moving it into the header. I did that for a test and duplicated the problem.
