Change text size removes underlining

Post by RichardP » Thu May 05, 2016 8:41 am

I searched "underline" and "underlining" and nothing came up on this topic, so maybe no one has raised it before.

In the current version of TextMaker 2016 for Windows (rev 752.0224), if I create an ordinary document that contains some underlining, and then I select all the text and change the font size, the act of changing the size "wipes out" the underlining, i.e., it removes the underline formatting from the text that was underlined previously. I have to go back and underline the text again. Very annoying.

I'm not changing the font (I usually just use Times New Roman), just the point size, say from 10 to 11.

Can this be fixed in a future release, please?

Confirmed here. It only happens if I change the text size by direct formatting, not if I change it by editing the character style.

Yes. The way I change the size is to Select All (ctrl-A) and then use the Formatting toolbar drop down control for the point size. It's so easy to do it that way.

I haven't tested this further, to see if it removes other formatting, for example. I use underlining for topic headers and for emphasis. I don't use other formatting options that often.

By the way, I DO like the feature where you can see the text size change dynamically as you hover over different point sizes in that control.

Are you using the current revision 752? I was not able to reproduce that issue here with that version of TextMaker 2016:

It's easily reproducible here. If I start a new document (default 10pt Times New Roman) and type some text including bold, italic and/or underline formatting, I can change the font size by typing a new number in the 'Change font size' combo and pressing the Enter key, or by clicking on the arrow and choosing a preset size from the dropdown list. The first way works without any loss of formatting; if I do it the second way, the formatting disappears as soon as the dropdown list is displayed with '10' highlighted. If I change it manually (i.e. the first way) to 9, 11 or 12 point, the formatting is retained, and it is still retained if I choose any size other than 10pt from the dropdown list. As soon as I hover over the '10' in the list, the formatting disappears, even if I move the highlight to another size in the list.

Yes, Sven, as stated in my original post, I'm on TextMaker 2016 for Windows (rev 752.0224).

I made a short (40 second) YouTube video showing the problem. https://youtu.be/KylS43kED9Y No audio, sorry.

This video shows:
1- Create a new document.
2- Type some stuff.
3- Select and underline some text.
4- Select "all" text with ctrl-A.
5- Change the font size from 10 to 12. The underlined text is no longer underlined.

Alfred did a nice job with his presentation, too. Thanks.

Ok, thank you! I was finally able to reproduce the issue here but it diod not happen anymore with a newer (internal) version. Please try again with the next service pack. The problem should not happen anymore with that update.

I tested it again and now I can reproduce the issue, even with the newer internal Nightly build.

I reported it to our developers and will inform you here as soon as we have a solution. Thank you!

The issue has been solved and will no longer occur in the next (not revision 757) service pack.
