Installation of ofw2016 causes Norton Internet Security warning

Post by mikeduncan177 » Tue May 19, 2015 12:21 am

It may be a coincidence, but I got a warning from Norton Internet Security (NIS) when I ran ofw2016.exe for the released product. It was a condition that NIS thought was activity that could be detrimental. Norton deleted the file. A copy of the report from NIS is shown below.

I would appreciate you looking to make sure that this has not resulted in an incomplete installation.

I can confirm this - got the same thing during installation. The issue appears to be the installer for Thunderbird.

Hello,

This can happen with a brand new unknown setup file with some security software.
Just add the ofw2016.exe to the exception list and try the setup again.
There is no need to worry. The file is clean.

I use BitDefender Internet Security, and I received no such warning when installing Office 2016 professional, during both the beta testing periods and the final version which was just released this week, I am happy to report.

I gave up on Norton Internet Security long ago because of this problem. Norton Internet Security does a good job, just do not try and add anything new or different to the system.
