Does SM Office 2016 for Windows playonlinux?

Post by DaveW » Tue Aug 28, 2018 5:31 am

I have been very happy with SM Office 2016 under Windows, but am now migrating to Linux.
I have not yet attempted to run the Windows 32 bit version with Wine or Playonlinux.
But I am wondering how successful that might be... either for a full installation, or for a Windows portable USB?

I suspect the Linux version would perform better in a Linux environment.
Is the 2016 Linux version still available for existing 2016 customers?
If so, where does one find it... and what is the cost?

(Please forgive if this is in the wrong forum section. I couldn't decide whether it belonged under Windows or Linux 2016.)

Thank you,
DaveW

Please note that we do not officially support SoftMaker Office 2016 for Windows in Wine or Playonlinux. We suggest to use the native Linux version instead.

I guessed that SM would not support use of Windows products on playonlinux.
But it would be nice to know how well it might work, before putting it to the test in that environment.

I see that, for current SM products, one license covers Windows, Linux, etc. in any combination.

I have a license for SM Office 2016. I have the Windows files. Where can I obtain the Linux installation files for SM Office 2016?

Thank you, DaveW

We don't test that combination, so we can't tell.

SoftMaker Office NX, our subscription version, includes all operating systems. SoftMaker Office 2016 and 2018 are licensed separately for each operating system.

You could use the trial version of 2018 for your experiments.

Okay. Thanks for the clarification regarding NX versus the purchased versions.
I may give the trial version a try.
