Access to NAS from Mobile?

Post by donone » Tue Oct 23, 2012 5:46 pm

I store all files on a NAS accessible via wireless or LAN.
I have to download what I want to open via a File manager with LAN access and then copy/move it back to the NAS.
Is there any way that I can open the files in Textmaker over LAN?
If not will there be such access in the near future?
I am not sure I can trust security to Dropbox and anyway would not store all files there and so no better than copying to external SD.

Any suggestions welcome.

Can you access the files on the server via a file manager in android? If yes, it should be possible to tap on a file and select a SoftMaker app to open that file.

Ah-ha, yes I can access it with ES File Explorer and so your suggestion is OK. Thank you for that.

[Edit] Having now tried this and then saved a file after editing, I first hit Save As to see where it 'will' save it.
The answer was Astro.cache. I did a normal Save and it worked.
I would be grateful if someone could find a few moments to explain how this has worked.
Would it have worked if I had completed 'Save As'?
It 'seems' but a short step to be able to offer Save As to include the network??

So you cannot save-as in the network via File=>Save as from TextMaker, PlanMaker or Presentations?

Correct. No more than I can Open from the network, hence my original post.
The only options for Open and Save As are shown down the left side and are all device locations starting at Device Memory /Storage/SDcard0 and also External Storage i.e. Removable MicroSD.
Nothing else apart from Dropbox and Evernote, neither of which I use.

I opened a feature request to implement this feature for future versions.
