The proper way to avoid wide gaps between words is to use hyphenation.

Format > Cell..., tab "Number format", go in the left field to "Custom" and define the format as DDDD (for "Sunday" etc.) or DDD (for "Sun" etc.). Of course, the cell content must be a WEEKDAY function.

I didn't try this myself, so I cannot guarantee it will work – but you might place the SoftMaker folder where you want it to be and an Alias named "SoftMaker" in ~/user/gistme/.

TextMaker takes the units of measure from the system-wide Windows settings. When you change these to "Metric", they are also changed in TextMaker. If you want to keep inches for the system settings, you may also type e.g. "2 cm" directly into the respective fields.
