A ban on MS Word?
Microsoft: Word ban would cause "irreparable harm" Microsoft has warned that "major public disruption" would be caused if a court ruling forcing it to redesign Word is allowed to stand. Last week, a court found that Microsoft had wilfully infringed a patent relating to the creati...

1. Name the one sport in which neither the spectators nor the participants know the score or the leader until the contest ends. 2. Is Calligraphy a viable art in a world that has TextMaker?
I (and some little ones) recently went to see The Tale of Despereaux - an animated film about (surprise) rats, and mice, and humans. I enjoyed the film but what really caught my eye was the beautiful calligraphy. Some research tells me that the calligrapher responsible for the beautiful writing in t...

Re: Is it legal to write someone's dissertation for him?
I am not sure I am following the logic in your argument. However, it is quite simple. If an individual is not the sole writer of a dissertation, they don't get a doctorate. If they pretend to, but purchasing someone else's work, they have committed fraud. It another person is a party to that act, t...

Re: Is it legal to write someone's dissertation for him?
Absolutely not!! Morally or legally. It is out and out fraud. That is the equivalent of writing another person's exam. However, I guess "offering" the service is akin to offering an illicit drug. You can offer, but until you actually produce the good, you haven't committed a crime. Thanks...

Re: Is it legal to write someone's dissertation for him?
Bad place to ask for legal advice. IMO, yes. Oh - I don't intend to offer to write anyone's thesis. I am an academic and I am just angry that such people temp students to commit fraud. If not illegal then it seems to me to be like punishing drug users for taking drugs, but ignoring the drug dealers...

Bad workmen blaming their tools?
Here's an article blaming computers and computer programmers for the current financial crisis: http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/dominic-lawson/dominic-lawson-i-blame-computers-for-this-crisis-1451417.html It seems to me that it is really the way the financial organisations controlle...
