Re: Windows XP still in use?

Freddie, I completely agree with you (in fact, I wrote something similar in the German forum in January). By the way, it's quite the same with Mac OS X which reached the top at 10.6.8 and has been on its way downhill since then.

SoftMaker Office takes the units from the region and language settings in your Windows system preferences.

Re: Excel Document Cell Shading

Did you choose the "Dark" theme in Tools > Options > Appearance? If so, is there a change when you choose another one?

Re: Windows XP still in use?

I'm running Windows XP in a virtual machine on my Mac. The Windows system has no internet connection, so security risks are minimized. I also have a Windows 7 licence here, but until now I was simply too lazy to set it up. I use Windows almost exclusively for SoftMaker Office, so XP meets all my nee...

Re: Irritating press coverage

Paul, thank you for your action! As martin-k already wrote, SoftMaker Office is quite often and without apparent reason ignored by the media, even here in Germany where it is developed. It always drives me crazy to see test reports with other applications coming out on top when I know SoftMaker to b...

Re: Bug: Bold does not work unless it is defined in the font.

From a typographical or design point of view, fake bold and fake oblique (this is not italic) are simply abominations and to be avoided at any price.

Re: A suggestion / improvement for Textmaker

Thank you for your patient explanation, Steven. Now I've got it, too. I didn't get the trick of inserting once more the character up to which the text is going to be deleted. This is a nifty solution, and I am sure it saves a lot of work, especially in translating and editing. On the other hand, it'...

Re: A suggestion / improvement for Textmaker

I'm completely with you regarding the lack of forward-delete on tablets. Not even the bluetooth hardware keyboard for my iPad has it, which is really a shame. But even after reading it four times, I am at a loss to understand your proposed solution. Let's take the first part of your example: Changin...

Re: Bug in Track changes mode

I see this more as a feature than as a bug. When I correct a typo inside a word (one or two letters only), it wouldn't make much sense to underline the whole word. What happens if you select the whole word first, before you start typing?

Re: About an article on Linux Format magazine...

Quite correct. After all, criticising Solitaire for not providing text editing features would be like criticising an apple for not being orangey enough, wouldn't it?

Re: About an article on Linux Format magazine...

Not to mark down a program for lacking features, giving the reason "They didn't attempt to do this" is indeed ... funny. :-o
It's hard not to see some bias here.
At least they admit that they don't understand their own review. Isn't this what an editor is supposed to do?

Re: iPhone sales are estimated to reach 10 millions soon

Well, Apple of course tries to promote its own Pages app, which is about the only halfway decent word processor for iOS. I don't say Pages is a bad app, but its philosophy is so different from what we are used to in word processor gui's that it is not so easy to adjust to. TextMaker offers more poss...
