I realised later that I can use SmartText to replace asses with assess.
That's good enough.

How do I remove a word from the system dictionary?

I look like an ass when I write asses instead of assess.
I very rarely write about donkeys so how do I remove ass and asses and any other word I'd like the speeling checker to catch?
