How to select text from scanned book page?

Post by bertie11 » Thu Mar 17, 2011 5:31 pm

I'm using Windows 7 64 bit with Textmaker 2008. I want to scan text from a book into Textmaker and then copy the text into a file. I am able to scan and get the text from the book into the program but I am unable to 'copy' the sections of text that I need.

Can Textmaker do this or do I need to use an OCR program to be able to use the scanned text or is there some other way to do this?
All I am allowed to do by Textmaker is to create a box around the text but I don't know how to copy some of the text .

Thanks.

A scanner always produces an image file. It's like you'd taken a photo of the page. To copy text into TextMaker you must use OCR software first to "read" the image and convert it into text.

OK Jossi, I see that now! I've just used Simple OCR but it is not very accurate. I don't mind spending some money but none of the main OCR firms will let me download a trial so I'm not buying without a trial .

Omnipage 17 would do I think, but no trial version!

Anyway, you answered my query. thanks again!

My experience with ABBYY FineReader is very good; it's fast, simple to use and extremely accurate. And there is also a free trial:
