Any way to reference a chapter number?

Post by ET3D » Sun Jan 23, 2011 10:43 am

Is there any way I can reference a chapter or section number in my text? For example if Chapter 2 (using the numbering of "heading 1") changes to Chapter 3, I'd like the references to it to be updated to the new number. Is this possible?

Thanks.

Insert=>Field=>Chapter number. TextMaker will always update fields automatically.

I tried this before, but from what I see it inserts the number of the current chapter (based on chapter breaks), and if I cut and paste it into another chapter, it changes to the number of that chapter. My purpose is to reference one chapter from another, and I don't see how I can do that if the number is always of the current chapter.

That's not yet possible in TextMaker. I will refer this as a feature request to our developers.

As a feature, I would prefer if a reference could be made to a level of the outline, so that it's possible for example to refer to section 2.5.a and that reference would change as its number changes. This would be better than working by chapter breaks.
