Megafont XXL -- how to install selected fonts?

Having just acquired this I was very keen to use it for my first project
but I can find no way to instal the fonts on a Win2000 system. (I want to
install one font) and no instructions how to use any functions if I
run MEGAFONT.EXE. I can find no help function, F1 does not
respond, and there is no README on my disk.

I'd appreciate advice why this facts are so and what I should do.
Is my CD missing something?

I have never downloaded any of the free fonts, but if the free font was an exe running it, likely installs the font.

After that you can login to any fot aware app and see if the font is visible.

No the Megafont XXL disk contains zipped versions of the ttf files.
They can be manually unzipped one by one and probably installed
by copying the file over. However inspection of one, Century,
shows there are many variants available e.g. expert set. Even if
one were to use the clumsy workaround abovementioned, there
appears to be no way to identify which zip file contains which
variant

Just run megafont.exe, then click "Install typefaces". A list of all typefaces is displayed in the left listbox, and you just check the checkbox on its side to install it. Uncheck to uninstall.

OK that's great. Where is it documented? Shouldn't there be a
readme file on the CD? How about Help or F1?

While I have you on the line, what are the other functionalities
and where are they documented? For example, what is Tear Off
and what does it do? Can anything be printed and if so how?

Not that many features in this little program. Install/uninstall fonts by clicking the checkboxes. Look at the samples to find the find you want. If you want to see multiple font samples at the same time, you can tear off the sample into its own window by pressing the Tear button.

That's about it.

Yeah, the program for me proved to be easier than putting all of the fonts in a directory. The program has a few quirks. If you check the box, go to another font and back to the origional and double-check to make sure the font was selected.

That's really my only complaint. The font disc is pretty impressive because if I ended up using 2-4 of some of these fonts, it'd make up for the price.

maybe there should be a visual script for linux

i know that installing all 10000 or so is not a very clever thing to do even in Linux.
while in Windows it would slow the operating system to its knew - with possible dire consequences
Linux is not free from trouble either.
Performace is the same (there is no registry in Linux) but the KDE Login Window takes ages to appear as it indexes all the fonts.
It used to take about 5 minutes for the Login Window to appear so i ended up deleting all fonts

i wrote a script that unzipped and saved each .tff to the correct directory.
but was thinking now maybe if there was a visual interface
we could go about choosing and installing in Linux
one by one

I probably can write such a program.
Question is - how much will pay me? hehe

We are working on a Linux font installer for future MegaFonts. I know that having to unzip 10000 files is not ideal.

i was thinking of something more interactive
anyway i will do it as an exercise for learning python or lua.
tcl/tk should be easy too.
but with all those you need the libraries installed
not all linuxes have python or lua or tcl/tk as standard.

so best is leave it up to you where you can make a slicker execultable
people browse and pick the fonts they want
a pane offers a live preview
that would be ideal and very professional
