Middle mouse button pression causes crashes

Post by vash83 »

Hello,
SoftMaker applications crash on pressing the middle mouse button.
I am running a trial version on Linux Debian 9 (Stable) using Gnome 3.
What could I do to fix the issue?
Thank you.

Out of curiosity, are you copy/pasting with the middle mouse button?

Hello,

Well yes, sort of. The mouse won't cause the segfault, but SO will still segfault if you copy and paste. That is, the problem wasn't the mouse but copying and pasting:

See here:

viewtopic.php?f=306&t=17628

Just be aware of that. If you continue using SO, set your documents to backup ever minute. If you copy and paste, and SO segfaults, it won't restore your latest saved version. It will only restore the latest *autosaved* version. (Hello, Devs? Mentioned this back when SO was still in BETA?)

Really really thank for your reply. I'm doing more tests this evening and I'll report it here.
I'm evaluating SO and it looks a good product, but the Support Team looks not to be reactive. I also wrote to them twice through the website support page some days ago, but I didn't receive any response yet.

It is a good product, in my opinion. but getting "the support team" to respond? Might as well send smoke signals. To be fair, and from what I can tell, Sven (who is the only official(?) softmaker respondent?) is managing both the German and English language forums and is, alone, responding to all the threads on these two forums.

I think I might start looking for help on both forums. :) My German could use some oiling.

I tried to reproduce the issue here with openSuse Leap 42.3 64bit and TextMaker 2018 but it simply doesn't crash when I paste content from various soruces (web pages, other Office files opened in LO Office, etc.).

We would need more information:
- What exactly have you copied from which web site or file?
- Does it crash in every (even new created) TextMaker files?
- Please attach the sminfo.txt you can create in help=>About

Thank you!

Hello,
thank you for your answer.

- sometimes I didn't copied anything. I simply open one of SMO applications and press middle mouse button, then the application crashes
- It does not crash always. For instance, I copied also a webpage content and nothing went wrong. It took quite a long time, but it succeeded. Yes, it could crash on every document, also with a new one
- I'll attach you it

Thank you

I hope they could improve their support service. A good product is not enough. Nowadays the support service is very important and it's something that make a product worth to be paid. I've no choice unfortunately, I'm Italian and I can't speak German. English is the best option for me.

When a great number of support enquiries comes in (a completely new version for Mac hast just been released) SoftMaker support can be lagging behind a bit. On the other hand, SoftMaker (a small firm with limited manpower) gives support free of charge via forum, mail and phone for an unlimited period. You won't get that from Microsoft.

Thank you! I opened a support ticket. Could you please tell us from which source (website, another file, etc.) you have pasted the content? Thank you!

Thank you to have opened a support ticket.
There are no specific contents that cause the crash.
The issue is random. It has almost gone away once I disabled the middle mouse button copy/paste feature within Gnome settings.

The problem has been solved and there shouldn't be any more crashes with the next service pack.
