Crashed during TOC generation

Post by ccolbourn » Fri Feb 03, 2006 8:09 pm

Hi,

Just tried to create a table of contents in a word doc (originally generated in OpenOffice and exported as Word).

TML appeared to go into an infinite loop - I had to kill -9 in the end (I left it about 15 minutes just in case). Top output here:

15272 charlesc 25 0 24500 18m 13m R 95.7 7.4 11:01.36 tml
11929 charlesc 15 0 91960 29m 41m S 2.3 11.8 30:31.78 firefox-bin
11748 root 15 0 49120 16m 27m S 1.7 6.5 32:54.72 X
11915 charlesc 16 0 10012 1164 7032 S 0.2 0.5 0:03.42 xterm
15330 charlesc 17 0 1968 940 1764 R 0.2 0.4 0:00.68 top
1 root 16 0 596 80 452 S 0.0 0.0 0:01.19 init
2 root 34 19 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.02 ksoftirqd/0
3 root 5 -10 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:01.03 events/0
4 root 5 -10 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.00 khelper

CPU time was varying between 95 & 99%. OS is SuSE 9.2

Just tried again, same thing.

Please send us the file you want to create a TOC from to support(at)softmaker.de, so we can take a look at it. Then we will try to create a TOC, so maybe we can reproduce your issue.

You can close this call if you like (although I'd expect TM to throw an error rather than entering a loop state) - I assumed that it must be stylesheet related (the stylesheet that came in with the document contained all sorts of OpenOffice stuff like 'ww-text' etc), so I copied the raw text into a text editor, copied it back into a new document and reformatted it. The table of contents works a treat now.

A possibly related error case - before going back to raw text, I'd tried the following:
save as rtf
reopen as rtf
create TOC (worked fine)
save as word 2000 doc (same loop state as before).

One thing that I can't find though: captioning of pictures. I'd like to set each picture in my document to have a caption of "figure X - Description" and have the numbers updated if I insert an earlier picture. Word does this, and OpenOffice tries but doesn't seem to do it very well, can Textmaker do it?

Overall, I'm having an easier time getting to know Textmaker than I ever did with word or OpenOffice. The style management in particular is much more user friendly. There are a couple of surprises like the 'caption' facility mentioned above, and the fact that to create something like this:

Code: Select all

item descriptive paragraph that might
                                  break over multiple lines
I have to use a table, rather than tabs.

We're sorry for the late answer, but we are still waiting for the document. We just searched again for an email from you, but only found some old emails from you.

Please send us the file again, but this time to forum(at)softmaker.de

The developers found a bug and fixed it, so the next version should be able to work fine again.
