Experiences with "Mailings"

Post by hitanykey » Fri Oct 27, 2017 9:19 pm

Producing Address Labels:

Help file has under “Lists and labels”:- "With the Insert > List/Label menu command...", but command is to be found under “Mailings”

Label format dialog box has label manufacturer entries still in German!

Select database feature only seems to work with .DBF saved by Planmaker 2018, .CSV and .DBF files saved from Excel either “Invalid” or unable to be opened.

Select records feature in database very welcome, but not at all intuitive. As the sole reason for opening the database when doing address labels is to select the wanted records, could not this be highlighted, or made more prominent?

Inserting merge fields not immediately obvious. I got the first line’s worth in, pressed Enter for a carriage return to do line 2 and it crashed. Sending the crash report required an email client such as t’bird, but I use webmail, so that wouldn’t work!

If, instead of using ‘Insert > Merge Field’ you use ‘Create > List/Label’, and select the wanted fields using the drop-down list (NOT by typing the field names within curly braces), the thing works, AND removes blank lines, which is necessary, but not made clear. Also the field concatenation is strict, so no spaces are added, meaning that if you want spaces they have to be added when doing the initial template creation. Creating a list also works, with formatting THANK YOU!

In the manual (PDF manual) on page 588 you can find a translation from the classic menu path to the new ribbon path regarding the mailings dialog.
