Auto change of text to en rule?

Post by Metal Mick » Mon Sep 03, 2007 9:06 am

Hi all,

how can I set up an automatic replacement of text/characters to an en rule? I have tried the Smart Text tool without success, but in previous word processors this was precisely the means to accomplish this.

Perhaps I do not have the syntax right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Michael P

The SmartText feature is for replacing words by something else, eg "br" by "best regards".

Do you have an example of what you want to replace?

Hi Tobias,

in OpenOffice, I type normally until I need an en rule, then I hit hyphen or dash, and type as normal. OO automatically replaces the following characters, "<space>-<space>" with, "<space>en rule<space>".

(I'm sorry, I can't use the correct character in this forum.)

I hope I've been clear, and I know how SmartText is intended to be used. It seemed a good tool to achieve this important writing process. Is there another way of doing this automatically?

Regards,

Ok, so please put the "en rule" into the clipboard.
Go to Insert :arrow2: SmartText and create a new one. The name of the SmartText is the word which gets replaced later.
As soon as you can type in the "replace text" you can paste the "en rule" from the clipboard using CTRL+V. Save the SmartText entry.

Now you can type in "SPACE - Name of the SmartText - SPACE" (without the hyphens) and it will be replaced by the "en rule".
