Still can't print documents if otf fonts are used in them

Post by attilas » Thu Dec 10, 2015 1:47 pm

I installed the SoftMaker Office 2016 for Linux rev 749.1207, and
If I use .otf fonts, for example "Linux Biolinum O" in my documents, then I can’t print them. On my printer’s LCD appears a "printing document" message for a short moment, but nothing else happens.

In the SoftMaker Office’s "printer setup" dialog I tried to use the postscript output, with 600dpi and 96dpi.
I tried the PDF output option too, but it complains about non-embeddable fonts. (But via the File menu I can successfully export to pdf with embedding all fonts, and then I can print it from a pdf reader.)

I use a HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP printer on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed x86_64 (20151201) and with the HPLIP (3.15.9-1.1 x86_64) driver.
The Linux Biolinum O font package can be downloaded via http://www.linuxlibertine.org/

Affected SoftMaker Office products and version:
TextMaker Professional 2016 for Linux - rev 749.1207
Planmaker Professional 2016 for Linux - rev 749.1207
Presentations Professional 2016 for Linux - rev 749.1207

(Sorry for my basic English)

It shouldn't happen with the next service pack release. Please check it and reports if it happens again.

Still happens with the latest service pack... but I see, you implemented a fascinating popup message...

But I don't care anymore...

OpenOffice and LibreOffice silently convert OpenType fonts to PostScript Type 1 (and sometimes fail while doing this) because many PostScript printers are unable to print CFF-type outline fonts.

We chose to offer an automatic conversion to TrueType because this will always work. The conversion is done using FontForge. Install it, and you can print documents that use OpenType fonts.

The other problem about PDF files that are destined for printing not embedding all fonts is also resolved.

martin-k,

Thank you, it works with FontForge :)
At first I understood the message this way: I should convert my OpenType fonts to TrueType fonts with FontForge, and install them, and use them that way. ... Maybe my English skills were the problem.

By the way, if I choose the postscript output instead of PDF I don't get this notification window, and nothing happens.
