Thunderbird auto fill not working

Following an update to Thunderbird the recipients addresses are not showing in the address bar, usualy there is a list however now the letters appear in red indicating that the email address is not in the address book. when checking the settings; Tools, compose Local is checked directory is checked but blank, edit directory pain is also blank. How do I fix this issue please. Or what else should I be looking at please.
The address book is there with all the addresses, I don't know how to find the address book file?

You updated Thunderbird, but didn't update the add-ons. See:

I have looked at the link but don't see how to do the add on update, I must be missing something. Many thanks.

First of all, please make sure that you're already using the latest version 52.1.0 instead of the slightly outdated versions 52.0 or 52.0.1 which still contained a number of bugs. To do so, please launch Thunderbird, invoke Help > About Thunderbird and click on Check for Updates.

In a second step, you should refresh the SoftMaker add-ons. Please open the add-ons manager (Tools > Add-ons), click on the gear-wheel icon in the top right of the window and choose Check for updates from the dropdown list.

I have the 52.1.0 update (32bit) however my Win 10 is 64bit, is this an issue

I finally managed to find the correct page and the settings, then a restart on Thunderbird and all seems well now.
